Flash Flooding In Gympie 6-1-11 #4

The final group of pictures!  These continue from here.  Personally, I think these are best at showing how much water was around.

flood-way-flooding I got smart here and grabbed the umberella.  Standing on the footpath outside our house, you can clearly see the incredibly full floodway and the waterfall flowing into it from higher placed streets.

the-gutter-on-the-corner This is the gutter on the corner of our road.  Not all the water flowed into the drain because of the many different directions the water was flowing in.  I estimate that it was about 3cms deep here. (more…)

Video, At Last- Flash Flooding 6-1-2011

I had problems getting video to embed here, so Les tried on his site.  No luck for him either.  YouTube it was to be, but at least one is up.

Coolayla is Les’ blog was supposed to be about our local area, but as not much happens here, it seems to have expanded to general tourism. Note to self:  Keep up with husbands sites!!! There are posts with pics of the 1992 floods there too (not our images as we weren’t here then).  They say things are going to be as bad or possibly even worse than back then.

Any ways, here is MY video of the flash flooding of our rood on Les’ site.  Notice the MY video?  Yeah, I was the one who grabbed the brolli and went wandering to get it.  Les just put them up for all to see, so I guess it could be considered a joint effort, especially considering he monkey wrangled while I played. But isn’t that what a relationship is all about?  Working together to get things done

Stay safe and dry.

Flash Flooding In Gympie 6-1-11 #3

Following on from here, we get to some even better pictures.

ground-lvl-1 Laying on the ground of our garage, I was able to get these next 3 images.  You can see the drops bouncing in the foreground.  You can also see the water running down the driveway and the road.

ground-lvl-2 I missed the car by a split second, but you can still see the spray it left on passing.  You can also see the dancing rain drops – just beautiful! (more…)

Flash Flooding in Gympie 6-1-11 #2

Like previous post, all images are taken between 3pm and 3:30pm(AEST) 6-1-2011.  I wasn’t any drier getting these ones either.

rose-lake-3 I think I was supposed to ditch the one in the last post that is like this.  Oh well, this one should be clearer.

rose-lake-4 Rose Lake, though the weed population is rapidly growing.  In this pic, the water was about 3cms deep. (more…)

Flash Flooding In Gympie 6-1-11 #1

These images were taken between 3pm and 3:30pm(AEST) on Thursday January 6th 2011.  Yes, I got very wet taking them.

backyard river 1 The spontaneous river in our backyard caused by poor quality soil, a slight depression in the ground and a large amount of rain in a short amount of time.

backyard-lake Of course, no backyard should be without the spontaneous lake.  This is still there and the water is warm. (more…)
