And I Watched The Balance Fall

For about a year now, Les and I have been saving really hard. Sure, there have been lump sum payments to help us along the way, but a lot of saving from our fortnighyly payments has been happening too.

As of yesterday, my target was over $8,000. And that is after buying a new fridge, washing machine and 2 new computers as well as a computer chair for Les and a feeding chair for me. And all the christmas shopping!

Our aim has been to get a car that is going to go and not conk out on the slightest hill. Les started searching through used car yards via internet and newspapers. The search was narrowed down to just 2 cars, both what we were looking for, and both still requiring a car to be able to go and get them, though one offer has been made to meet us half way.

After more negotiations with the sales rep, Les finally decided on ‘The One’. It is a 1997, dark green, 8 seater Mitsubishi StarWagon, and it is going to be ours. Only problem was how to pay for it, as we don’t have a credit card and carrying the cash around is highly risky.

They accept bank deposit!!!! Woohoo!. So, armed with all the bank details, I went into my rather healthily balanced target account and depleted it beyond recognition! $6,700 and my new balance is just over $1000.

I hit the go button to complete the transaction, and then watched as my money disappeared from the screen in front of me to sit in limbo until approved for transfer.

Our car is almost paid for. Once they call us and say the money is there, then Les will be on a train to meet the salesman in Nambour to finish the paperwork and bring our new chariot home.

We are sooooo excited and can’t wait! More freedom for the family, better able to take short day trips and less stress! We are not going to know ourselves!

It has been a very long time since we had a decent car, and this will be the first car that we have mostly saved for on our own.  Freedom, here we come!!!!!  Car 5
