It Seems We Are Destined To Have A House Full Of Babies

No, I am not pregnant!  That, sadly to say, is a slight impossibility as we have the best contraceptive in the world, a baby.

We are, however, destined to have babies all around us, though at the moment, they aren’t of the human kind.  But they are still babies all the same, so doesn’t really matter.

Recently, the local wildlife has been bringing their off-spring for visits.  There have been the baby magpies and other birds, the baby snakes, baby possums and many more that we probably never even noticed.

Within the house, there have been baby water snails, which just magically appeared over night.  Many of these, I fear, became food for our fish, though about 3 of them have survived.

Now we have finches, they are settling in and preparing their nests, though from what we can see, they lay their eggs first, and then ready the nest, which to me seems quite an odd way to do things.

Over the last 2 weeks, our tiny feathered friends have laid about 8 eggs, though there still isn’t much sitting on them going on.  These tiny ovals have been laid in the seed dishes as well as the nest box, and I believe there have been some groovy moving from the dishes to the nest box too, though that has stopped now (probably due to lack of room).

Yes, it seems that even though the human baby population explosion is over, our pet birds are taking over and settling about to raise their own broods for us.  Which means, we are going to need more cages soon!

Now, does that mean I am grandma now?
