As the days are getting warmer, the mozzies come to snack, there is some little chirping, coming from the back. You see, our birds have babies, or in the least they have eggs, something that I never thought, I’d ever get to see…
Sorry, but I thought I would go with the spirit of the season. Indeed, our finches are in the process of raising their 3rd brood (in as many months), with 5 little heads stretching up to be fed this time. Talk about more than doubling their breeding efforts!
Today, our cockatiels thought they would join the egg laying race. I guess we do have a male and a female after all! I doubt very much they will hatch this egg or raise the chick (if it does hatch) because they don’t exactly have a nest box and the egg is on the bottom of the cage with nothing to protect it. Still, we will let them to learn how to do the whole nesting thing, and in the meantime, track down a suitable nest box – preferably a large, hollow branch.
Yes, there are little cheepers every where! Spring is well and truly here! The gardens too, are looking lush, just need some rain to give them a little flush. The storms have already hit, and damaged us a little bit. If this is a taste of summer, then I say – Give me autumn any day!
