Over Commited?

I know I spend way too much time on the computer.  How?  Because the mountain of washing in the other room has hit the roof- again.

It seems that the online world is very dangerous.  There are way too many fun sites to visit, including my own, and I’m the kind of person who is going to join a site if I have a genuine interest in it.

The dilemna that comes from so many site hopping sessions, is that I tend to spend much time catching up on each one every few days.  Neglect of the housework from this is totally inevitable.

Combating my growing online and general computer time problem isn’t going to be easy.  A schedule is in the works so I can make the most of all the sites I visit, as well as keep up with my other hobbies and the housework.  I’m also hoping to be able to schedule trips out of the house without the kids to help me keep my sanity-a trip to the dentist will count as quality time away from the noise and tripping over toys (it isn’t often I get to sit/lay down without doing anything), though I’m hoping for more exciting excursions like shopping or craft classes or just going out for a coffee or even to the library.

My schedule is a 2 part one.  The first part is the list of things I want to be able to do- hobbies and housework.  This is a list that is broken up into the various categories (thank you Microsoft for the templates!!!) and then a weekly and monthly number of occurance is given, which then tells me how often something is to be done.

The second part of the schedule is the daily tasks.  This is set up for a month, with each new week to a page (landscape view).  Starting with the blank spreadsheet, I then go and enter in the task items.  Naturally, there are going to be left over squares, and to these, I will find something to do to fill them (like catch up on sleep?) or use them to catch up on the tasks I have not been able to complete from previous days.

I don’t know if it will work though.  There are only so many things I can do in any given day (breastfeeding mother and all), which is why I am beginning to wonder if I haven’t over commited my online escapes.  Ouch it hurts to be honest about it, but with 8 sites I haunt on a regular basis (not including my own!!!), I think the hurt is more than justified.

But, am I going to give any of them up?  Nope.  I need each and everyone of them.  Heaven help me though if I join any social network/reconnection sites like Facebook or MySpace- I think my husband would file a missing persons report.

Computer Troubles- How To Frustrate The NewZealtralian.

Using the computer is a must for me, and at least every day at that.  My main connection to the outside world is via the internet, and I rely on it for some sanity and more adult contact.

You would think then that a new computer would behave itself, being uncorrupted and all.  But no, not my computers.  Both of my new laptops have been giving me grief over the last week or so.

Let’s see.  It began with my little white netbook not wanting to hibernate, even though that was what it was set to do.  That got sorted out, though nearly left me bald from the stress. (more…)

Currently Working On Our Photo Library

gianthamper1I have no notions of being the greatest computer tech in the world.  My skills are limited, though I am learning more all the time and updating old ones

Currently, I am working through all my photos (we are talking about 5 years worth here), resizing, editing and categorizing so that they will upload to my website and are easy to find in the future.

To show my results off, I thought I would share some pics of the giant hamper my parents gave to us for Christmas upon their visit last month.  Needless to say, the photos have been reduced in size to allow for WordPress to upload them, as before, they were way too big!

See how big the hamper is?  We are still trying to get through all the goodies, which is probably going to take some time to achieve!

And my babiest sister….Um, how much twirly ribbon did you use?  Did you the-sticky-tape-culpritleave any for other shoppers?  And what about sticky tape?  We have had fun trying to rip it all apart, and some of the decorations will be kept for next year.

Thanks again my beautiful family, the hamper was greatly appreciated, and the basket does make a wonderful addition to my laundery supplies!

Mistress Of My Web

Web sites.  They are everywhere these days.  Not just online, but businesses and people in general advertise their websites everywhere, even taxis aren’t safe.

My own site was started as an experiment.  A way for me to learn about how it all works and to share some of my life with the wider world.  A daunting task for any computer iliterate fool to undertake, but I did so any way.

Things were hairy for a while.  Several times I gave up in dispair, believing that I just couldn’t run my own site without making a complete mess of things.  But did I give up?  No!  I have kept going, gaining more confidence and learning new things.

I am now the mistress of my web.  Queen of this site, and ruler extrodinaire of all that you read.  I have created my own portal where outsiders can have a glimpse at my rather boring life and have a laugh at my attempts to do so.

The journey hasn’t been easy.  Infact, if I had known just how hard it was going to be to keep a site going, I’d have never begun one.  But that was then and this is now.  I have been able to add graphics to my site, and align them so that they look like the more professional sites.  Not easy to do, when you think that the only way you can do it is by using html code.  Fool me found the hard way that the insert picture box can do it automatically just by selecting where you want the picture to sit.

Picture links were easier to learn.  The foundations already there thanks to text links and being able to add graphics.  You just combine the two and you have a picture linking to where ever you want it to go.  Should have tried it sooner, but that’s life. (more…)
