Musical Household

Yes, we have a lot of music in our household these days, and it isn’t just the radio or girls singing either.

Our new appliances are very vocal too.  The dishwasher plays a groovy little tune to let you know it is finished and the dryer, well, that’s the problem.

The dryer plays a little tune every few minutes when it is finished, until you go and switch it off!  Too bad if I set it to dry the clothes over night! (more…)

She Ate What???!!!

The other day, I rescued this tiny little gecko that had been running around our floor.  It couldn’t have been more than a few days hatched, and because of the cold weather, it was rather slow on its feet.  The tail was also have missing.

With the little critter safely up off the floor, I put him in our study, thinking it would be a great place for it to grow and hide.  Yeah, the perfect place, as the girls can’t get in here at all, thanks to the old play pen that has been transformed into a fence of some sort.

The next morning, I got up (being school holidays, I got the sleep in) to be told that Les had some bad news for me.  Uh oh, the look on his face was rather perplexing to say the least.

I was expecting him to say the birds were dead or had flown the coop, but not so.  Maybe it was the fish? Nup. (more…)

They Came, They Left….

And there were tears from the girls (and me).

Yes, my baby sisters came up yesterday, despite my warnings that we are currently breeding a bug of some sort.  They said that it was their choice, and they aren’t going overseas for about another 3 weeks, so they would be over it by the time they left.

We got to meet J’s new man.  He’s my age (meaning he’s about 8 years older than my sister) and seems to be really well grounded (for his age).  He was polite, and really, really good with the girls.  I’m so pleased that J has found a good man, and I hope that they go the distance because he will be good for her.

S is planning on giving up her law studies when she comes back from Canada, something she has not yet discussed with my parents and with good reason – Dad will get hysterical and bully her into keeping at it (he’s getting senile in his old age- more so than usual).  Her plan is to find a job and maybe move closer to us (something which we will support 100%).  If she can’t move closer, then she will be coming up every opportunity she can. And I Watched The Balance Fall

For about a year now, Les and I have been saving really hard. Sure, there have been lump sum payments to help us along the way, but a lot of saving from our fortnighyly payments has been happening too.

As of yesterday, my target was over $8,000. And that is after buying a new fridge, washing machine and 2 new computers as well as a computer chair for Les and a feeding chair for me. And all the christmas shopping!

Our aim has been to get a car that is going to go and not conk out on the slightest hill. Les started searching through used car yards via internet and newspapers. The search was narrowed down to just 2 cars, both what we were looking for, and both still requiring a car to be able to go and get them, though one offer has been made to meet us half way. (more…)

Christmas Day Delights

A usual day for us on Christmas Day, just like every other day except for a couple of things.

pressies-galoreFirstly, there were presents to open, a mountain of which took hours to buy and wrap and seconds to destroy.  Oh the joys of being a parent - you get to watch all the hardwork gone into carefully wrapping the presents go down the gurgler as mischevious monkeys tear and shred their packages apart to get to the goods inside.  All this done as you watch with a mixture of pain (for the care put into wrapping not being taken in the unwrapping) and enjoyment (at the faces of your children as they discover what’s inside).  A bizzare mix of emotions to be sure, but that’s all part of being a parent  (??????).  Pretty soon, the mountain of carefully wrapped presents has turned into a mulititude of mountains made from previously pristine christmas paper, packaging from the gifts and the gifts themselves.willow-opens-a-pressie

The second difference to our day was the lack of  ‘domestic work’.  Yep, apart from putting the dryer on to dry the clothes (which it didn’t do properly the first time) I did nothing!  Ok, so I did tackle the numerous mountains to rid the house of as much of the rubbish as possible, but that was only done becuase the girls could not find their presents for the mess!  Apart from feeding us all, Les did no housework either.  He did, however, keep up with his online work, much to my dismay (it was Christmas Day which should have meant being free of ‘work commitments’).
