Only Took A Year - Inner Sanctum Up and Running

Palm TreeI knew ages ago that I wanted my site to be more than just a blog.  The only problem was, who to make it more than just a blog.  Solution is pages, hundreds, no thousands, of them if I so wish.

Pages, like blog posts, are easy once you get used to making them.  I spent a lot of time working and editing to get the pages right, but was never happy with them, nor had I found a way to link them into my blog.Bush

Well, I found that writing a page was very much like writing a blog, so once realised, the writing of a page became easy.  And, I just use the same tools and knowledge, which makes sense if you think about it.  Blog posts and pages are just the same after all, it is just how they stack together that is different.

So, comfortable with putting pages together, I began working on making them ‘visible’.  Yeah, like that’s been easy.  After Leaf 3much huffing and puffing and hair pulling, the only way I could get my Inner Sanctum ‘visible’ was to add the link down the right hand side of my site.  Not exactly what I had in mind, but it at least works.

So far, I’ve been working on a graphics library. Tree The idea came when several friends said they didn’t know which codes to use with some graphics.  Not easy to know such things, so I thought I would help out.

I have included sites I get my graphics from, the graphics I use (starting from the ones I’ve used after starting my library) and the codes needed.  The idea being that not only are the uploader codes given, but it can be better seen where those codes have come from – from within the full html code.

Leaf All the time, I am adding to the growing library, with many categories now covered (and more yet to come).  I’m also open to people sending me the page of a graphic and asking me to simplify the code for them, or just add it to my growing library.

There are more things that will be added to my Inner Sanctum, but they are taking more time than I thought.  I’m thinking a photo gallery of my world (not including family photos)Leaf 4 showing off my (pathetic) gardening skills and my cross stitch as well as whatever else I manage to snap.

Reviews of websites, shops and products are on the cards too, though that is still going to take some time as well.  It could be said, I’m having way too much fun with the graphics!

So, feel free to take a peek.  The link is in this post several times, and can also be found down the right hand side of my blog (only if you come through to my site) along with the rest of my fave links.

Added My Website To Mylot Profile

.com

What I mean is, the graphic above has been used on my personal profile on MyLot.com to link back to my site.

It all started when this one member had started a discussion about getting it to work on her profile page, and other members had said they hadn’t got it to work.

Being me, I decided I would give it a go, so I did.  And it worked! Which is a miracle in itself, give I am still on my L plates with html codes and the likes.

You can check it out here if you like.  It is the big pink box at the top right of the page with the above graphics in it.

Don’t get me wrong, it took about an hour for me to get it working.  I had to first choose the best text graphics to use (each letter is an individual graphic), get that working, add the .com at the end, make sure the link was changed and then make sure the code would be transferred over to the ‘sortie’.

Finally, it worked, so I was very pleased with myself.  It wasn’t all that hard, and I could have made it more simple, but no, it had to be super fancy! lol

Mistress Of My Web

Web sites.  They are everywhere these days.  Not just online, but businesses and people in general advertise their websites everywhere, even taxis aren’t safe.

My own site was started as an experiment.  A way for me to learn about how it all works and to share some of my life with the wider world.  A daunting task for any computer iliterate fool to undertake, but I did so any way.

Things were hairy for a while.  Several times I gave up in dispair, believing that I just couldn’t run my own site without making a complete mess of things.  But did I give up?  No!  I have kept going, gaining more confidence and learning new things.

I am now the mistress of my web.  Queen of this site, and ruler extrodinaire of all that you read.  I have created my own portal where outsiders can have a glimpse at my rather boring life and have a laugh at my attempts to do so.

The journey hasn’t been easy.  Infact, if I had known just how hard it was going to be to keep a site going, I’d have never begun one.  But that was then and this is now.  I have been able to add graphics to my site, and align them so that they look like the more professional sites.  Not easy to do, when you think that the only way you can do it is by using html code.  Fool me found the hard way that the insert picture box can do it automatically just by selecting where you want the picture to sit.

Picture links were easier to learn.  The foundations already there thanks to text links and being able to add graphics.  You just combine the two and you have a picture linking to where ever you want it to go.  Should have tried it sooner, but that’s life. (more…)
